Tyra Carolina Lundgren, Vases P.29.80
Tyra Carolina Lundgren, born January 9, 1897, in Stockholm, died November 20, 1979, was a Swedish sculptor, ceramicist, glass and textile artist, painter, and author.
Education and Work:
Tyra Lundgren was the daughter of veterinary professor John Lundgren and Edith Åberg. After seven years of study at a coeducational school in Djursholm, she studied at the Higher School of Industrial Arts from 1914 to 1918, and then (she completed her final year concurrently) at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm from 1918 to 1922.[7] In 1920–1921, she alternated between studying at the Academy and abroad – sculpture with Anton Hanak in Vienna and painting with André Lhôte in Paris. In Paris, she also drew sketches at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière.
Tyra Lundgren lived and worked in France and Italy until 1940, when she returned to Sweden.
Tyra Lundgren worked as a freelance designer for numerous European ceramics companies and glassworks.
Her works are exhibited in numerous museums and, for understandable reasons, rarely come up for auction.
